Hello Everyone!
It's been a long time since I posted a blog and I do apologize! I've been very busy unpacking these, YES ... Antique/Vintage Tea Cups & Saucers. I just can't keep them on stock ... people just love them! They're hot sellers and I get people of all types wanting them ... brides, businesses, or that one person who just want a few. I am actually in heaven when I have lots but when they go out the door with the new owner, I see huge smiles going too! Why is it that? Well I will tell you! It's an old art from the past that we will never get back...yes, they are historic! Many of the antique ones are hand painted by artist who worked on the production lines where human hands painted them! The elaborate tea cup sets are so stunning and shows the workmanship from the past.
The question is, why does a sad feeling come over me after my customers leave with a pile of tea cups and saucers? Well I will tell you. If I know the customer and why they are buying them, then I'm fine. It's when I don't know them and wonder why they are buying them no matter if it's a few or a whole lot of them. It really isn't my business and sometimes I don't ask but I somehow try to find out. You see, there's a dark side about antique tea cups & saucers (and other glassware from the past) that is very disturbing to me. It is the new trend called "Glass Art" where people use vintage glassware, especially tea cups & saucers to make feeders and other glass pieces for gardens and indoor use and then sell them. These people not only make items that I mentioned above but teach workshops as well. This is fine but in the process they drill holes through our antique historic glassware in turn ruining these unique pieces. That is the part the bothers me. We will never get those antique historic pieces back.
Today, most fine bone china tea cups & saucers including other glassware are made by production lines but with machines, no artist. Please don't get me wrong. I am not writing this to stop or protest these people who are doing glass art or teaching it but I am simply reaching out to all of you to get your opinions about this practice. The picture below is an example of Glass Art where the person drilled through the antique plate, saucer & tea cup. Of course it's beautiful ... it's fine bone china from our past artists but these pieces will never be used around our tables with that favorite tea and snacks enjoying conversation with our family and friends again. That just makes me sad. I wonder to myself, am I the only one that feels this way? I wonder, is it just me being sensitive or do other people who love antiques, especially fine china, get upset too?
Feel free to let us know what you think by writing your comments below! We would love to hear from you! Be polite and respectful please!
Thank You!
